Update on "The Naked I" by Tobias Davis/East Coast play by transgender author

For those of you who were excited about this post and those of you who didn't see it but are excited about theater about (trans)gender--the theater is contemplating adding a second date to the play's Hartford run, and there's another show at UMASS-Amherst and a panel in Hartford at a later date. Please note the additional date is not announced, so they might not know what you're talking about if you call; the idea is to get them to add it.

From Tobias K. Davis:

Subject: To everyone planning to attend the Naked I in Hartford

Please call Charter Oak Cultural Center at (860) 249-1207 ASAP to reserve your tickets. They have decided to only release the Friday show if a) Thursday's Show is selling well and b) enough people seem interested in a Friday show. So, call and reserve Thursday tickets and beg for Friday tickets, if you please. I really want to have 2 shows! Please forward to anyone you know who's coming! Can't wait to see you there!
~Toby

"The Naked I: Monologues from Beyond the Binary"
written and directed by Tobias K. Davis

When/Where:
Feb 15 at 7pm in the Student Union Ballroom at UMASS-Amherst
Feb 17th & 18th at 7:30pm at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford

Why: Because everyone needs to see this show. It's the "transgender Vagina Monologues." This work explores the bodies and experiences of transgendered and intersexed individuals, as well as out most basic assumptions about gender and sexuality. Tender and heart-wrenching, deeply funny and erotic, "The Naked I" takes the idea of a monologue-based play to a new level and boldly explores the land beyond male and
female. (Note: this play contains some nudity)

And: In Hartford it's paired with a new piece by Eve Ensler (who wrote the original "Vagina Monologues") called "They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy... Or So They Tried" presented by the Hartford transgender community.

How much:
UMASS: Donations appreciated at the door
Hartford: Tickets are $15 general, $5 students, call (860) 249-1207 or pay at the door.

There will also be a discussion at the Charter Oak Culture Center in Hartford on March 3 at 7 pm to reflect on gender, sexuality and identitity, featuring a panel of area scholars and transgender activists, including Tobias K. Davis, playwright and director of
"The Naked I."
