Center for Sex & Culture (San Francisco) new web site/events

Greetings! We've finally gotten set up with a stable mailing list situation and hope to be able to tell you (usually on a semi-monthly basis) what's going on at CSC. We're really just getting started in our still-rather-new space, but it's a great place and we have exciting plans for the future... starting this weekend with Nina Hartley!

So you can check out just what interests you, see the list just below this note; read down for short blurbs about each event. More detail is (or will soon be) available on the events page at our website:

Also, many of you are interested in our library. We're setting it up and hopefully will be able to hold a grand opening this spring. We have thousands of books and lots of other materials, too, and we are always happy to receive donations. We are a non-profit so we can offer a tax letter for these.

more details, plus upcoming events

Plan a Very Special Valentine's Day Weekend with award-winning adult video star Nina Hartley! 398 11th St.
February 12, 12 pm to 3 pm & February 13, 11 am to 5 pm. $350 per couple. Saturday only (singles welcome): $100/person
Erotic Enhancement classes are more than just sex lectures. Bring a partner and you'll have the opportunity not only to learn information together, but to practice! Couples only, but the Saturday session will be open to singles as well (at $100 per person) because all couples practice will happen on Sunday. Saturday's session will include demonstrations of techniques which attending couples can practice on Sunday. Nina will discuss communication, touch, mental states that affect sexual desire and response, and sex information, as well as specific erotic techniques. Pre-register at (415) 255-1155. About Nina Hartley: Twenty years into her career as a public advocate for sexual self-awareness, sanity and literacy, Nina Hartley is just hitting her stride. An exhibitionist with a cause, she created a persona that was wholly new at its inception in1983 but is now part of the broader cultural lexicon: “feminist porn star.” First as a dancer in San Francisco and then as a performer in adult videos, Nina put her body on the line in support of her ideas about sexuality, feminism, personal liberation and social responsibility. Much more about her at our site and at

And! The Center for Sex & Culture is proud to share Nina with Good Vibrations, who is sponsoring her on Saturday night, 2/12, at the Parkway Speakeasy Theatre in Oakland. Come are still trying to confirm this one.)

February 19: A Sex Work Smorgasbord! 8 pm, $5-7 at the door

And more!

February 25: Vaginas -- FREE! Meet the mother/daughter team who wrote VAGINAS: An Owner's Manual. 8 pm.
Elizabeth Topp and Dr. Carol Livoti's book provides an in-depth look at this fine (but sometimes misunderstood) body part. If you own a vagina yourself (or know and love someone who does), come to CSC for a fact-filled, frisky presentation from author Topp and her mom, a longtime gynecologist. Learn some vaginal history, myths (and facts), plus useful information on health and maintenance. They'll answer your questions, too, and have discounted copies of the book available for sale. There is no charge for this event, though if you wish you can make a tax-deductible donation to the Center for Sex & Culture. Visit Dr. Livoti and Topp's site at for more information about the book.
