queer scientists?

Hi there,
I'm new to this community and I have a question.  I just got back from my first national scientific conference and it made me wonder: how many queer folks are there out in the world of academic (or non-academic) sciencey things.  Most of my friends are in the humanities and their identities tend to be more visible and part of their academic/professional lives.  And being at this conference got me thinking.  Good science is supposed to be completely void of personality, but even so...  And then I got really excited when I spotted a couple of (probably) queer presenting people.
Is this making any sense?  I'm sure there are more of us out there.  But where?

p.s. I do realize I'm talking about a very limited set of people here.  It's just, I've spent most of my life so far not in the academic world and it's the rest of the world I understand better.  It's the academic world + queers I'm much less familiar with.
