The fight goes on - Preserving same-sex marriage

Recent developments in the states should make it clear to us all that 'rights' earned must constantly be defended. There is no safety in a bill being passed when a revisionist, reactionary government can take our rights away from us. American right-wingers are working to have Roe Vs. Wade overturned, and while we don't have to worry about that, we DO need to be aware that the Conservative government has made it clear that they will be re-opening the books on same-sex marriage and trying to get it repealed.

As the right-wingers and 'family-values' ass-hats start gearing up to try and roll back same-sex marriage laws, Egale Canada is re-opening Canadians For Equal Marriage

Here's the scoop on what's up and what you can do.

Miracle Whips feminist performance collective

I don't know these gals, but a friend of mine e-mailed me and I promised her I'd get it out there.

Join Us! The Miracle Whips are recruiting!! Please pass around to your friends!

Hello Past & Current friends!

The Whips have an open spot for a new member. That member could be *you*!

You don't need to sing, dance, act OR feel comfortable with your body - Lord knows we don't/didn't! However, we do regularly sing, dance, act, wear revealing costumery, write, have fun, spread radical femininity around like love, deconstruct heteronormative notions of sexiness & gender and basically get to be the creative little radicals we were meant to be!

There are no auditions or tryouts or any other Mean Girl kind of hoops to jump through. We are a feminist collective.

We require:

*you are 21+ years old - only because we often perform in clubs/bars
*you identify as femme
*you identify as queer
*be committed to personal growth, and
*please have seen or will see one Whips show (next one is April 8)

As part of the selection process, we want to meet you and talk about what we're currently doing and what you would like to do, to make sure we would be a good fit. All ages, sizes, colors, abilities and ideas are welcome and desired - trans women and non-bio females and genderqueers are welcome too. We're especially interested in recruiting more femmes of color. Currently, we are one Latina and three white strumpets and it's in our immediate interest to consist more broadly of the femininities that make up queer L.A. (but, PLEASE, sluts, trollops, fornicatresses, whores and excessively sexually theatrical folks ONLY). Any gender representation is welcome to join us as a Miracle Worker and friend.

Please visit our website for more information about us.

Please email us with questions or comments:

**NOTE** Please pass this on to any amazing, smart, inspired, queer femmes you know that may be interested.

We hope to hear from you soon! xo

Also in attendance & autographing copies of her work, will be Ann Herendeen the author of the new Bisexual Regency Romance novel, Phyllida and the Brotherhood of Philander.

For those of you who have not read it, "Phyllida" is the story of a self-identified gay man in 1812 London who makes a marriage of convenience with a practical but impoverished lady of good family and then surprises himself--and her--by falling in love with his wife!  Then meets his ideal male partner.

But like all true romances, the story has a happy ending, in every sense of those words.   Those of us who have read it have found it hysterical as well as historic, and most delightfully erotic.
