Oakland City Council to Vote on Gender Identity Ordinance
On Tuesday Evening, December 16th, the Oakland City Council will vote
for the first time on expanding the non-discrimination policy of the
city to include gender identity. This ordinance will not only
provide protection for those who self-identify as transgendered in
some way, but will also protect those individuals who are perceived
to be gender variant from discrimination.
This ordinance will be heard by the Oakland City Council in the City
Council Chambers on the Third Floor at City Hall in Oakland. The
address for City Hall is 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza in Downtown Oakland.
The 12th Street BART Station is one block away. Non-Consent Items
begin at 7 p.m.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out a speaker card, or
you can fill out a Speaker Card on-line by going to
www.oaklandnet.com. Speakers usually have 2 minutes to address the
Council, so plan to be brief but powerful. We want to make a
statement by having the Chambers full of supporters for the ordinance.
Please Come and Speak in Favor of this Ordinance.
