1.  GAYS WILL MARCH IN UNITY AGAINST REPUBLICAN
NATIONAL CONVENTION

Gays Against Bush! (www.gaysagainstbush.org) Will Join
The Larger UFPJ Demonstration on Sunday, August 29

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New York, New York (August 26, 2004) – Beginning at
11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 29, Gays Against Bush!, a
coalition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered
(LGBT) and AIDS advocates, will gather at Sheridan
Square in Greenwich Village.  Gays Against Bush! will
then march in unity and join the main body of the
United For Peace & Justice “The World Says No to the
Bush Agenda!” demonstration.  Once united with the
UFPJ demonstrators, Gays Against Bush! will take part
in an impassioned, peaceful, and legal march past
Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican
National Convention.

“The politics of fear and smear do not address social
issues important to all Americans,” said Louis Flores,
a member of Gays Against Bush!  “For the gay
community, fear and smear have been tactics society
has used against us.  Now is a time for dignity and
equality.  We need an administration in Washington
committed to equal treatment for all Americans.”

Together, we will send a message so powerful that it
cannot be ignored:  We are fed up with the direction
that the Bush Administration has taken this country!
There are two key moments this year when people
throughout the United States will have the opportunity
to send a resounding message of opposition to the Bush
Agenda:  November 2, election day, and August 29 in
New York City.

“At one point,” added Flores, “Republicans were all
too eager to come to New York and pay to see the
off-Broadway show, ‘Naked Boys Singing.’ But then they
realized their own double standard:  you can’t pay to
see ‘Naked Boys Singing,’ when you don’t want to see
tuxedoed men marrying.  Their hypocrisy is so blatant
it is even self-evident.”

2.  GAYS TARGET NYC MAYOR BLOOMBERG

Gays Against Bush will demonstrate
outside Mayor Bloomberg’s event
for Log Cabin Republicans in Bryant Park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New York, New York (August 26, 2004) -- On Sunday,
August 29, a contingent of gays marching in the large
UFPJ demonstration in New York City will break away
and march past Bryant Park to draw attention to
serious policy shortcomings of Mayor Michael
Bloomberg’s administration.  With this separate
break-away demonstration, Gays Against Bush will
highlight that Mayor Bloomberg has not addressed
Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender (“GLBT”) issues.

By supporting President Bush, Mayor Bloomberg is
hurting all gay people.

*  Mayor Bloomberg vetoed the Equal Benefits Bill,
which would have required city contractors to provide
domestic partner benefits, and he is now taking action
to block the implementation of this law, which was put
into effect after the City Council over-rode the
mayor’s veto on June 28, 2004.

*  Mayor Bloomberg vetoed another important piece of
legislation important to the GLBT community:  the
Dignity in All Schools Act (“DASA”), an anti-bullying
measure intended to protect students from harassment.
DASA included protections based on gender identity and
sexual orientation.  The City Council is expected to
over-ride Mayor Bloomberg’s veto on September 9, 2004.

*  Mayor Bloomberg is trying to restrict the City
Comptroller Bill Thompson’s use of the city’s
shareholder power to bring shareholder resolutions
requiring corporations not to discriminate based on
sexual orientation or gender identity.

MEANWHILE, President Bush has proposed or adopted
administration policies and platform positions, which
are hostile to all gay Americans.  President Bush’s
policies on war, homophobia, same-sex marriage,
adoption, hate crimes, sex education, judicial
appointments, and AIDS are deplorable.

With the Republican National Convention set as a
backdrop, no photo-op event attended by both Mayor
Bloomberg and Log Cabin Republicans can mitigate
President Bush’s – nor Mayor Bloomberg’s – record in
respect of gay rights.

3.  GAYS TARGET RNC MISSOURI DELEGATION

Gays Target RNC Missouri Delegation
Protest “Show Me” State’s Anti-Same-Sex Marriage
Amendment
by Gays Against Bush!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 26, 2004

New York, NY — Gays Against Bush!, a coalition of
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered (LGBT) and AIDS
advocates, has announced plans to target Missouri’s
delegation to the Republican National Convention (RNC)
on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, beginning at 5:00 pm, to
protest the “Show Me” state’s passage of an
anti-same-sex marriage constitutional amendment. The
event will consist of a legal picket in close
proximity to the Westin Hotel entrance at 270 West
43rd Street (the SE corner of 43rd Street and Eighth
Avenue).

In passing the constitutional amendment, a majority of
Missourians have, sadly, succumbed to the politics of
fear and divisiveness. “We hope to send a message to
the citizens of Missouri, and other states confronted
with this issue, to illustrate the inherent
contradictions contained in the arguments put forward
by the amendment’s supporters” said Robert Padgug, an
organizer of the “’Show Me’ Action,” “and to help
advance their understanding” he continued “ to the
effect that our precious constitutional guarantees of
equal protection and due process are dangerously
corrupted when voters deny equal rights to a minority.
When the rights of some are violated in a popular
vote, everyone’s rights are less secure.” he
explained.

“Throughout our history bigotry has sought to hide its
vile countenance behind a veil of religious piety,”
said Ray Dries, a member of Gays Against Bush!, “The
Bible has been used to justify slavery; ditto for the
subjugation of women and the genocide of Native
Americans. The oppression of gay people continues this
unfortunate tradition. The attacks against same-sex
marriage are particularly vicious in that the bigots
are, for the first time, using the amendment process
to deny gay people access to the courts.”
