Do we really want to separate ourselves?

You know, I have been thinking...do we as "queer" folks really want to separate ourselves from the rest of the population? I mean, ther are magazines and books for straight folks and then ther are the same for us...I think it is cool and all that we are getting support, but at the same time, i don't think that we should really become some other culture...I think one of the reasons I was so reluctant to admit to being a homosexual was the feeling that I was different from my friends, not only by who I find attractive, but by a separate culture and attitude...I don't know if I make any sense...the thing is, I am not good at writing things like this...so bare with me...so yeah, I don't like the idea of having the "gay culture" and the "gay community"...why can't we be the "community of human beings"? Maybe that is asking too much...but I guess what I am saying is, do I have to act like other lesbians? Not saying that we are all masculine and wish we were men, because I know that isn't true. I am not like that. But I don't know...I hope you guys understand what I am saying...if you do, please give me your thoughts. If you believe we should have our own culture, then by all means, say so...if you agree or somewhat agree or anything, please let me know...I really want to udnerstand this culture thing...oh and when it comes to the books, why do we have to have our own section and stuff...anwyay I think I said what I could without confusing too many people...
