Dear GLBT friends at Blackstripe

I‚m a gay graduate student at the University of Denver, teaching
at George Washington University in Washington, DC. I‚m looking
for participants for my dissertation research about male-male
couple relationships. I am writing to ask if you would be kind
enough to post the following call for participants to your
group‚s email listserv, bulletin board, or other news source for
your community. We are hopeful that the results of this study
will contribute to an improved quality of life for male couples
and all sexual minority partners. This research has been
approved by the University of Denver (IRB #03092). If you have
any questions, please feel free to email or call.

Thank you!

=====

I am a researcher and doctoral student at the University of
Denver, also teaching at George Washington University. I am
looking for men in committed male-male couples to participate in
my dissertation research about relationship quality, love,
intimacy, communication, and sexual behavior in men in
long-term,
committed relationships. We will be examining monogamous or
sexually "closed" relationships as well as sexually
non-exclusive
"open" relationships.

You qualify for „The Male Couples Relationships Study‰ if
- You and your partner have been together one year or longer
- You and your partner are males from 18 to 65 years of age
- You and your partner are both HIV negative, and
- You and your partner are both willing to participate

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a
survey that contains questions about you, your romantic
relationships and sexual activities, past and present, the
nature
of your current relationship with your partner, and your
feelings
about your relationship with your partner.

The questionnaire may be completed by email attachment, online,
or we can mail you a hard copy questionnaire with return postage
paid. Once you have returned the questionnaire, each member of
the couple will be paid $20 for their participation. You will
also receive a synopsis of the study results when completed.

Confidentiality is extremely important to me in my research.
All
participants‚ responses will be kept confidential. As soon as
your surveys are received, your name will be separated from your
responses. A list connecting names and responses will be kept
under lock and key and will be used only in case of emergency.

The results of this study could help improve the quality of life
for male couples by helping to dispel myths and misinformation
about gay and bisexual men as partners and family members,
contributing to legitimate discourse about sexual minority
marriage and family issues. Likewise, this research could
provide therapists with important information about couple
communication, help reduce the likelihood of the transmission of
HIV/AIDS in couples through improved couple interventions, and
improve the mental health of individual men in relationships by
achieving a better understanding of male couple dynamics for the
mental health provider community.

If you are qualified and wish to participate in the study,
please
email us at MCRS@gwu.edu with the following information: (1)
Names of both partners, (2) your preferred format (email
attachment or hard copy survey), and (3) either email addresses
(for attachment) or street addresses (for hard copy) for both
partners.
